Pyramids of Egypt were built
as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens. There are almost 138 pyramids
discovered in Egypt. Pyramids of Egypt were built around 4500 years ago close to the
Nile.
The people of ancient Egypt believed that death on Earth was the start of
a journey to the next world. From this believe they made the pyramids for there
eternal life. The most well-known pyramids were built for the pharaoh
Khufu. It is known as the 'Great Pyramid'. Great Pyramid is the most famous
monuments of ancient Egypt. The pharaoh Khufu began planning to make a
'house of eternity' for his soul. A spot was chosen for building it. Top of the pyramid covered in shining
metal (either gold or electrum).
It is often said
that the Great Pyramid of Khufu contains 2.3 million stone blocks. That weigh from 2 to 30 tons each
and there are even some blocks that weigh over 50 tons. The base of the pyramid
covers 55,000 m2 (592,000 ft 2) with each side greater than 20,000 m2 (218,000
ft2) in area. The Great Pyramid had a swivel door entrance at one time. Most
of the workers were farmers who worked on building the pyramid. For about 20
years, hundreds of men worked on building the pyramid. The interior temperature of Pyramids of Egypt is constant and equals the average
temperature of the earth, 20 Degrees Celsius (68 Degrees Fahrenheit).
From an entrance just above the base of the Great Pyramid, a cramped
Ascending Passage climbs for 36 meters up through the solid stone core to a
towering Grand Gallery. This climbs another 46 meters to reach the King's
Chamber and an empty sarcophagus in the heart of this colossal pyramid.
The enormous weight that bears down on the King's Chamber is dissipated by a
series of ingenious stress-relieving chambers and massive granite beams built
above it. Pyramids of Egypt are really a mysterious one.
